The music ministry at Baker Memorial UMC exists to glorify God. One way we do this is through musical expression. This is most obvious in the Sunday morning services where our three main ensembles regularly participate in worship leadership. In addition to the weekly services, the musicians at Baker provide music for special services and events throughout the year such as the Lenten mid-week services, youth events, weddings, funerals and memorial services. While we share the common purpose of worship, we understand that different people have different musical preferences, and the diverse music program reflects this. From J.S. Bach to Chris Tomlin; from Country Western and Rock to choral standards and bell choir favorites, the music is sure to uplift and inspire our congregation to worship God. Anyone interested in participating in the music program should contact music director Jeffrey Thompson.
Praise Team: The Praise Team is Baker’s contemporary music ensemble. Even within this specific genre of music the styles may vary from rock and pop to home-made updates of classic hymns.
Chancel Choir: The Chancel Choir is Baker’s adult choral ensemble. The group performs both standard choral works as well as new commissions and arrangements. The choir has collaborated with other churches to perform large-scale works in concert and in the context of worship services. Any interested singers would be enthusiastically welcome to join the choir!
Bell Choir: The Bells of Baker ring their joyful song regularly in our worship services, and provides a wonderful mini-concert on Christmas Eve each year. The ensemble consists of 12 ringers play 4 complete octaves of bells. All of the ringers are accomplished sight-readers, which allows them the opportunity to explore challenging works, all to the glory of God. The Bells practice from September through June.
